Maryland Goth Picnic

“Dress in your best, slap on the sunblock, grab your parasol, and don’t forget the picnic basket — we are having a lovely goth picnic!

- The event will be held at Centennial Park in Howard County — read about the park here: http://countyofhowardmd.us/departments.aspx?id=1822 .

- We will be using the South Area, conveniently located off of Route 108. Soon after going through the South Area entrance, make a right at the sign that says “boat rentals/concessions”. The road will end in a parking lot. We will be up a small hill to the right of the parking lot, where there is a picnic area with picnic tables. Look for the spooky red “goth picnic” sign! (If the picnic tables are in use, we’ll just spread out on the ground). (For those concerned, there are restrooms convenient to this area).

- If you have a parasol, beach umbrella, or anything like a gazebo, please feel free to bring it. One gazebo will be provided, but the more shade, the better. You may also wish to bring additional sunscreen for reapplying. Fans (battery-operated or manual) may also be a good idea!

- Please bring your own food and drink, and anything you’d like to share! Prepare for the possibility that there may NOT be available grills for cooking. Also please do not bring alcohol, as this requires a permit. Plates, utensils, cups, and napkins will be provided.

- Lawn chairs and/or blankets to sit on are advisable.

- Plenty of typical summery amusements, such as bubbles, croquet, and beach balls will be provided. If you have something you’d like to bring, like a kite or other lawn-games, please feel free!

- If it rains, the picnic will be moved indoors to the Ruby Tuesday in Columbia. (but if it’s just a little dreary, all the better!)

- The more, the merrier — Please invite anyone you know who might be interested!

- Please also note that this event will be very loosely organized, more like a meet-up than a structured event. Just show up and see what unfolds!

- If you send a text to 443-228-8318, I will keep you updated on things like if we have to put the rain plan into effect, if we got a spot with a picnic table/grill, if parking is using the overflow lot, etc.”
